This is why I’m an atheist

Forget logic and reason, Christians have a story about a bearded magician:

the death of atheism–around the corner?

“why are the 2,500-year-old prophecies of ezekiel 38 coming true before our very eyes?”

  1. who said he had a beard? and for the record, Christians aren’t even slightly interested in magic, or luck for that matter. but you might want to look into it? maybe it will help you out???

  2. We are supposedly created in his image and lots of people have beards, so it’s a hunch. And I’m sorry for calling holy intervention magic. Magic is illusion through the sleight of hand, whereas most events in the bible never even happened so they’re more fables than magic.

  3. my aunt ruth doesn’t have a beard. it looks like you don’t either? then again, i do have a beard, so yeah, maybe ezekiel had a beard!

fables? try “supernatural”… that’s the thing that will kill atheism.

  4. “fables? try “supernatural”… that’s the thing that will kill atheism.”

Fortunately for us, events claimed by Christians and James van Praagh as being supernatural are either coincidences, phenomena that can be explained by science, or actually non-events (hallucinations, psychosomatic, etc). But if you subscribe to mythology developed by humans thousands of years ago to make sense of their seemingly random events, and then later cultivated by Emperor Constantine to better control people, then yes these events are supernatural. I choose science instead, but you have as much right to religion as I do to atheism.

  5. emperor constantine! my hero! yay! another puppet.

i choose science as well. it’s a beautiful window into God’s creation. (oh, did i forget to mention that i’m a scientist?)

just because the slingshot has been held steady for many years, doesn’t mean God isn’t going to let go.

Matthew 25:5-6: “The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'” (NIV)

Matthew 25:19: “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money.” (NLT)

Hebrews 10:37: For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. (KJV)

you have spit in His face, hopefully in ignorance. please be careful, because you’re treading in thin waters.

  6. Haha, that’s right. The earth is 8,000 years old, god planted dinosaur bones to test our faith, the bible was written by divine inspiration, and god will return to smite the non-believers. We are but ‘Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God’.

i choose science as well. it’s a beautiful window into God’s creation. (oh, did i forget to mention that i’m a scientist?)

I once thought that the world will be doomed not by your spiteful magician-god, but by your inability to advance beyond your draconian, masochistic, self-deprecating doctrine. But I have since realized that this will not happen. Instead, the hypocrisy of religion will let it continually re-invent itself as it has done for thousands of years. It will continue to slowly and painfully cast away aspects that become too barbaric for the advancing society.

In the end, society continues to further its enlightenment, much to the chagrin of fundamentalism. The later will still get to smugly preen throughout eternity, wrongfully claiming that it’s responsible for all things good. But, oh well. As long as society continues to progress, it doesn’t really matter.

Christianity has come a long way, hasn’t it? Not terribly long ago Christians were sending knights to hunt Jews (huzzah!), Inquisitors were torturing non-believers, and priests were getting rich from selling absolution to nobles. You’re quite a bit more harmless now that you have far less influence. As long as you’re kept in check, the world will flourish.

  7. God planted RINGS in the trees that He spoke into existence. And ADAM was a man, not an embryo! we’re talking about the Almighty here! not some petty human being! TEST my faith??? INCREASE my faith!!!

nothing regarding the God of Jacob–whose only begotten son is Yeshua our Messiah–has EVER been re-invented. The Bible existed, still exists, and women and men like myself consider it 100% contemporary.

Too barbaric??? just wait! think God’s less harsh in the New Testament? He’s just delaying justice, and instead of using SAMSON and JOSHUA to kick butt, He’s reserving vengeance all for Himself.

ha ha! you think i’m experiencing “chagrin” ??? i’m the happiest person in the world! guaranteed! you’re the chaffed and chapped one.

you think society is progressing! phhhhh. yippee– glory of humankind– aren’t we so brilliant and progressive! let’s get proud now, coz pride comes before a fall, let’s give it a test! we’re all so wise!

“Christians” never hunted anybody. ever heard of prejudice? just because some buggers used the label doesn’t mean they lived up to it. you want me to say, “Atheists” did this and that? you want to be a representative of everything that’s ever happened under that label???? come on! this is a grade 4 lesson on prejudice.

priests! i suppose you’re talking about Catholic priests. little piece of info here: Catholics aren’t Christians. you might want to educate yourself a little.

keep me in check? no… the power of the Holy Spirit does that. but when Jesus returns for the second coming, SHALL ANYONE KEEP HIM IN CHECK!!!!??? and do you think He’ll be politically correct!? how dearly i look forward to that day.

  8. LMAO! You get nuttier with every reply. I love this.

Too barbaric??? just wait! think God’s less harsh in the New Testament? He’s just delaying justice, and instead of using SAMSON and JOSHUA to kick butt, He’s reserving vengeance all for Himself.

This is the masochistic, self-deprecating part. I’m sorry to inform you that you have an unhealthy relationship with your magician-god. He is extremely mentally abusive, and it’s taken its toll on his children.

Catholics aren’t Christians. you might want to educate yourself a little.

Historians beg to differ, but you don’t follow science and reason so why start now? Then the only reason your religion was created was so that king Henry could get a divorce. That REALLY makes me think it was ordained by god.

Your magician-god can kiss my ass. I refuse to kow-tow to a fairy tale that if is true, means your magician-god is a spiteful and evil creature.

  9. correct, i do not follow “science” or “reason” or historians or human thinking in general. i follow God, and i’m not sorry about that. king henry started the anglican church. good for him. i’m not talking about the anglican church. i said Roman Catholics aren’t Christians. why? because they assert their traditions, idolatery, and human authority ABOVE that of scripture, hence supposing to avert the Spirit itself, leaving no trace of Christianity. no “historian” can tell ME what “Christian” means…
